Kirsten Brockhoff Panel Presentation Paper Christian Ethics October 20, 2014 Homosexuality Homosexuality is defined as, the sexual or romantic attraction to members of the same gender. A male who practices homosexuality is known as being gay. The word ‘gay’ did not originally have any connection to a sexual connotation. In fact, the word was originally express feelings of happiness or carefree attitude. It was not until the twentieth century that people used the term gay to indicate a sexual orientation. Opposite of males, female homosexuals are given the term lesbian, which is derived from the poems of Sappho, a writer born on the Greek island of Lesbos. She wrote powerful and emotional content directed toward other women. Another term often associated with homosexuality is bisexual. If someone is bisexual, they are said to be attracted romantically or sexually to members of both genders. Homosexuality is one of the most controversial ethical topics discussed today, and there are both pros and cons to this subject. When discussing about various controversial topics, many people will disagree about whether the topic is morally right or wrong. Homosexuality in particular has many different sides to the topic. After researching the topic, I found that there are numerous reasons that people think of homosexuality as immoral, whether they are religious reasons or non-religious reasons. Religious values can have a large influence on the opinion one has of homosexuality.
